Most Czech freelancers (OSVČ) do not need full accounting software. If you are on flat-rate expenses or the flat tax, an online invoicing app covers almost everything; desktop programs like POHODA or Money S3 start to earn their place when you claim actual expenses with many receipts, are a VAT payer doing your own filings, or must keep double-entry books. An s.r.o. always needs real accounting, which in practice means an accountant with their own software.
Below: what the law actually requires of you, what each type of tool does, what it costs over the first year and after, and a decision guide by situation.
Daňová evidence vs účetnictví: what the law requires
Two different things often get called "accounting":
Účetnictví (double-entry accounting) is a statutory system under the Accounting Act: journal, general ledger, balance sheet, profit and loss statement. An s.r.o. must always keep it. An OSVČ must keep it only when registered in the commercial register, when turnover in the previous year exceeded 25 million Kč, when a partner in a partnership where another partner keeps books, or voluntarily, as summarised by Průvodce podnikáním.
Daňová evidence (tax records) is the simpler single-entry system for an OSVČ claiming actual expenses: income, expenses, assets and liabilities, kept for income tax purposes. The law does not prescribe a form; a well kept spreadsheet is legally enough.
Flat-rate expenses or the flat tax need even less: a record of income and open receivables, plus VAT records if you are a VAT payer.
So the typical OSVČ question is not "which accounting software" but "how much of daňová evidence, VAT and filing do I want a tool to do for me". If you are still choosing a tax regime, read how Czech freelancer taxes work in MoneySky or compare regimes in the tax calculator first, because the regime decides how much software you need.
What desktop accounting software gives you
POHODA (Stormware), Money S3 (Seyfor) and ABRA Flexi are the established names. Their entry editions are built for exactly the OSVČ on daňová evidence.
POHODA Mini
A desktop licence for one PC. It covers daňová evidence, invoicing, VAT return, souhrnné hlášení, supporting data for the income tax return and electronic filing. Mini leaves out homebanking, foreign currencies, the asset register, orders and kniha jízd (the mileage log); those start in the Lite edition. Mini is also the only POHODA variant without unlimited IČO, so plan on one business per licence. Stormware has confirmed that all POHODA variants will support EET 2.0 within the licence, and its mKasa app is free.
Money S3 Basic
Also a one-time licence with yearly paid updates. Basic includes address book, bank and cash with homebanking, daňová evidence, asset register, invoicing and kniha jízd, without stock or payroll. On the tax side Money lists the VAT return and OSS return, kontrolní hlášení, souhrnné hlášení, the income tax return, both insurance overviews (ČSSZ and health insurer) and electronic submission. That is the most explicitly listed filing set of the three entry editions. We found no EET 2.0 announcement for Money S3 at the time of writing.
ABRA Flexi Basic
Formerly FlexiBee. Not a desktop licence but a rental, used through web, desktop client and mobile web. Basic is aimed at sole traders and small firms without employees and includes both double-entry accounting and daňová evidence, invoicing with ISDOC, bank and cash, a simple warehouse and unlimited companies. ABRA states that EET 2.0 support is being prepared and that direct EPO submission of VAT filings is in progress.
What desktop tools share: depth (assets, depreciation, mileage, VAT filings), a long track record and support for accountants who already know them. What they cost you: time to learn, a less friendly interface, and bank connections that rely on direct APIs for a few banks or on statement file imports.
What online invoicing apps give you
Fakturoid, iDoklad and mPOHODA are built around the invoice: issue it fast, send it, match the payment, chase late payers. Accounting depth varies by plan.
Fakturoid: free plan for up to 5 clients. From the cheapest paid plan you get the income tax return with the ČSSZ overview, a running calculation of social and health contributions and monitoring of the flat-tax band and VAT threshold. Cost tracking and bank payment matching start one plan higher; the VAT return, kontrolní hlášení, souhrnné hlášení and OSS are on the top plan only. Payment matching works through bank e-mail notifications. Fakturoid exports to POHODA, Money S3, ABRA Flexi and other accounting programs, and has announced EET 2.0 support for paid plans.
iDoklad: from Seyfor, the makers of Money S3. Free plan for 5 contacts. Bank matching, the VAT return, kontrolní hlášení and income tax supporting data start on the middle plan (Oblíbený). It integrates with Money S3/S4/S5, POHODA and Vario, which suits a hand-off to an accountant.
mPOHODA: Stormware's cloud invoicing, with a free tier within limits (5 contacts, 100 issued invoices), bank connection for any bank through Everifin plus direct Fio, and mobile apps.

Where a finance platform like MoneySky fits
MoneySky (the product I build) sits between the two. It syncs all your bank accounts through PSD2 open banking (read-only), issues invoices with ARES lookup and automatic payment matching, compares flat-rate expenses, actual expenses and the flat tax side by side, keeps fixed assets with Czech tax depreciation, vehicles and business trips, and prepares the VAT return and related VAT filings, the income tax return and both přehledy from the same ledger. It exports invoices, transactions and journal entries for your accountant. It also covers personal money, which the accounting tools do not touch.
What it is not: double-entry accounting software for an s.r.o. If you run a company, MoneySky can track its money and invoices, but your statutory books still live with your accountant. It has no native mobile apps (it is an installable web app), no stock management and no cash register or EET device.
Cost over the first year and after
| Tool | Model | First year | Each following year |
|---|---|---|---|
| POHODA Mini | Licence + SERVIS | 2,980 Kč (SERVIS free in purchase year) | 980 Kč |
| Money S3 Basic | Licence + updates | 2,990 Kč (updates free in purchase year) | 1,690 Kč |
| ABRA Flexi Basic | Rental per user | about 4,700 to 5,100 Kč (390 to 425 Kč/month) | same |
| Fakturoid Na každý den | Subscription | about 2,530 Kč on annual billing (or 50 % off the first annual invoice instead, for an IČO under 12 months) | about 2,530 Kč |
| iDoklad Oblíbený | Subscription | about 4,300 Kč on annual billing (358 Kč/month) | about 4,300 Kč |
| mPOHODA Basic | Subscription | 1,990 Kč on annual billing | 1,990 Kč |
| MoneySky | Subscription | €79.90 (about 2,000 Kč) | €79.90 |
Prices excluding VAT as listed on the providers' websites in October 2026, except ABRA Flexi, whose page does not state the VAT basis, and MoneySky, shown as listed on its pricing page. Check their pricing pages before you decide: POHODA, Money S3, ABRA Flexi, Fakturoid, iDoklad.
Two things the table hides. Desktop licences are cheap after year one, but if you skip updates and come back later, Stormware's current price list charges customers on an older version 1.5 times SERVIS to catch up, and an outdated version will not have the current tax forms. And POHODA and Money both give the next year of updates free when you buy in the last months of a year, so autumn is the cheapest time to buy.
Decision guide by situation
| Your situation | What you actually need |
|---|---|
| Flat-rate expenses or flat tax, a few invoices a month, not a VAT payer | An online invoicing app; a free plan may be enough. Desktop software is overkill. |
| Actual expenses, lots of receipts, assets, a car | Money S3 Basic or POHODA Lite if you like doing it yourself; or an online tool with receipt handling and an accountant at year end. POHODA Mini lacks assets and the mileage log. |
| VAT payer filing your own VAT return and kontrolní hlášení | A tool that produces those files: Money S3, POHODA (check the edition's feature list), Fakturoid's top plan, iDoklad from Oblíbený, or MoneySky. |
| An accountant does everything | Use whatever exports cleanly to their program. Ask which software they use before you pick an invoicing app. |
| s.r.o. | Double-entry accounting, almost always kept by an accountant. Your own tool is for invoicing and cash flow, not for the books. |
Verdict
Pick desktop software (Money S3 Basic or POHODA) if you keep daňová evidence yourself, have assets and a car to track, and like owning a licence. Pick ABRA Flexi if you want accounting software in the cloud that can grow into double-entry. Pick an online invoicing app (Fakturoid, iDoklad, mPOHODA) if invoicing is most of your admin and you are on flat-rate expenses or the flat tax; Fakturoid is the most polished of them for invoicing alone. Pick MoneySky if you want invoicing, bank sync across all accounts, tax regime comparison and filing documents in one place together with your personal finances. And if you run an s.r.o., let your accountant choose the books and pick your own tool for everything around them.
FAQ
Does an OSVČ have to keep accounting (účetnictví)?
Usually not. Only when registered in the commercial register, above 25 million Kč turnover in the previous year, as a partner in a partnership where another partner keeps books, or voluntarily. Otherwise you keep daňová evidence (actual expenses) or just income records (flat-rate expenses, flat tax).
Is POHODA free?
The desktop POHODA is not; POHODA Mini is a paid licence with a yearly SERVIS fee after the first year. Stormware's cloud invoicing mPOHODA has a free Start plan within limits.
Is Money S3 Basic enough for an OSVČ?
For daňová evidence, yes: it includes assets, kniha jízd, homebanking and the VAT, income tax and insurance overview filings. It has no stock or payroll.
Can I use Fakturoid instead of POHODA?
If you are on flat-rate expenses or the flat tax, usually yes. If you claim actual expenses with assets and depreciation, Fakturoid covers costs and taxes on its higher plans but is not a full daňová evidence system with an asset register; many people pair it with an accountant.
If you want to see whether MoneySky covers your setup, the 14-day trial needs no card, and the pricing page lists everything included.
