Best Budgeting Apps in the Czech Republic: Spendee, Wallet, YNAB and More

Anton

For most people in Czechia the best budgeting app is Wallet by BudgetBakers (deepest features, partner sharing, its own Czech National Bank licence for bank access) or Spendee (simpler, cheap entry tier, AI receipt scanning). YNAB is the best budgeting method but cannot import from Czech banks automatically. If you are a freelancer or mix personal and business money, you need something that also handles invoices and taxes.

Below: how to choose, a summary table, an honest section on each option including your bank's own app and a plain spreadsheet, and quick picks. Disclosure: I build MoneySky, which is one of the options. I have tried to treat it like the others, gaps included.

How to choose a budgeting app in Czechia

Most "best budget app" lists are written for the US, where the default answers (Monarch, Copilot) are built around US and Canadian banks. These are the criteria that actually matter here:

  • Czech bank sync. Automatic import is the difference between an app you keep using and one you abandon in February. Apps connect via PSD2 open banking, usually through an aggregator. Global bank counts mean little; what matters is whether your bank works. Most apps do not publish a Czech bank list I could verify, so test your bank during the trial.

  • Sharing with a partner. Do you want to see a joint account together while keeping personal accounts private? Apps differ a lot here.

  • Investments. Do you want net worth including ETFs and crypto, or just spending?

  • Cost. Free tiers usually exclude bank sync. Lifetime plans exist for some apps.

  • Freelancer needs. If part of your money is business income, a budget app will not issue invoices, watch the VAT threshold or estimate tax and insurance.

  • Privacy and data location. Who connects to your bank, and where is the data stored?

Wallet by BudgetBakers

Wallet is made by BudgetBakers, a Prague company founded in 2014, and has 10M+ downloads on Google Play. It is the most complete general budget app on this list.

  • Bank sync: Premium. BudgetBakers claims over 15,000 banks worldwide. For EEA accounts it connects as a licensed account information service provider supervised by the Czech National Bank, so there is no third-party aggregator in between for Czech banks.

  • Sharing: Group Sharing lets the owner share selected accounts with per-account roles (Admin, Track & read, Read only, No access). Members do not need Premium.

  • Planning: planned payments feed into balance predictions, and budgets show a forecasted spend breakdown.

  • Investments: stocks and ETFs entered manually (no broker link), crypto supported. Basic, but useful for net worth.

  • Platforms: iOS, Android, Mac and a full web app; offline mode on mobile.

Downsides: no public price list (the help centre says prices are shown in the app; the Czech App Store lists Lifetime at 1,190 Kč and a 3-year plan at 1,290 Kč), receipt scanning is not supported according to its own help centre, and there is a lot of app to learn. See the Wallet product page.

Spendee

Spendee is also from Prague (SPENDEE a.s.) and its store listings say almost 3,000,000 people use it. It is the friendlier, more visual of the two Czech apps.

  • Pricing: free Basic with one cash wallet and one budget, Plus at $1.99/month or $14.99/year, Premium at $5.99/month or $35.99/year, and Lifetime Premium in the app stores (from 1,190 Kč in the Czech store). Details on Spendee's pricing page.

  • Bank sync: Premium, more than 2,500 providers in 50 countries via Salt Edge and Plaid. Czechia is listed; individual Czech banks are not named.

  • Receipts: Magic AI Scan reads a receipt photo and fills in amount and category (Premium).

  • Sharing: shared wallets on Plus and Premium, but bank-connected wallets cannot be shared.

Downsides: no real balance forecast, no stock or ETF tracking, budgets are not in the web app yet, and the trial is 7 days with payment details required.

YNAB (You Need A Budget)

YNAB is a method as much as an app: every crown gets a job before you spend it. People who stick with it tend to love it.

  • Pricing: $14.99/month or $109/year, no free tier, 34-day free trial without a card on the web. One subscription can be shared with up to six people. See YNAB pricing.

  • Czech banks: not supported. YNAB's European direct import covers 17 countries plus the UK, and the Czech Republic is not one of them (YNAB's list). You import CSV files from your bank, with a built-in CSV converter added in September 2026.

  • Currency: one currency per plan, so a CZK account and a EUR account do not mix in one budget.

Pick it if you want the zero-based method and do not mind importing a file every week. Otherwise the price and the manual import are hard to justify in Czechia.

Toshl Finance

Toshl has a loyal following and very flexible budgets (by category, tag or account, with rollover and alerts).

  • Pricing: free tier with 2 accounts and 2 budgets. Pro is $2.99/month or $19.99/year, Medici $4.99/month or $39.99/year (Czech App Store: Medici 129 Kč monthly or 999 Kč yearly). 30-day trial, payment details required. See Toshl pricing.

  • Bank sync: only on Medici, through Plaid and Salt Edge. Czech bank coverage is not something I could verify.

  • Sharing: no proper sharing; two people have to use the same login.

Caution: the iOS app has not been updated since December 2024, while Android was updated in September 2026. On an iPhone I would pick something else.

Your bank's app (George, Air Bank, Revolut, KB)

The free option you already have. Czech bank apps have become decent at showing where money goes:

  • George (Česká spořitelna) categorises income and expenses automatically and has an AI assistant, "Zeptejte se George". I could not confirm a dedicated budget feature.

  • Air Bank has a smart overview and a chart showing whether your money will last to the next paycheck, plus shared accounts. It has shown accounts from some other banks since 2019; the current scope is unverified.

  • Revolut has spending analytics and budgets per category or overall, with a daily limit that accounts for upcoming payments. Analytics cover Revolut accounts.

  • Komerční banka multibanking shows balances and transactions from a long list of other Czech banks.

The limit: each bank app is good at its own data. Where multibanking exists, it shows balances and transactions, not budgets across all your banks. If all your money sits in one bank, this may be all you need.

A plain spreadsheet

Free, private and infinitely flexible. Export a CSV from your bank once a month, paste it in, categorise. Nobody else touches your bank data. The cost is your time, and most people stop after a few months. Good for people who enjoy it; poor for anyone who needs the app to do the boring part.

MoneySky

MoneySky (my product, made in Prague by NewTech Builders s.r.o.) is not primarily a household budget app. It is for freelancers, small s.r.o. owners and anyone whose personal and business money overlap.

  • Bank sync: 2,686+ banks in the EU, EEA and UK via GoCardless, read-only, and the supported banks are listed at moneysky.app/en/banks. Most Czech banks return up to two years of history on first sync.

  • Beyond budgets: eToro and crypto exchange sync for net worth, invoicing with ARES lookup and payment matching, and Czech tax and insurance calculations for OSVČ and s.r.o.

  • Sharing: share accounts and payments with a partner.

  • Price: €7.99/month or €79.90/year, one plan, 14-day trial without a card (pricing).

Downsides: no native mobile app (a web app you can add to your home screen), no offline mode, no free plan or lifetime plan, no balance forecast, and it is pricier than Spendee or Wallet for pure budgeting. It is also a younger product with a smaller user base. Longer comparisons: MoneySky vs Spendee and MoneySky vs Wallet.

Quick picks

  • Best overall for households: Wallet by BudgetBakers.

  • Simplest, with receipt scanning: Spendee Premium.

  • Cheapest paid option: Spendee Plus, if you are fine with manual wallets.

  • Couples with a joint bank account: Wallet (Spendee cannot share bank-connected wallets).

  • Budgeting method fans: YNAB, accepting CSV imports.

  • Free: your bank's app if you use one bank; a spreadsheet if you use several and like control.

  • Freelancers and mixed personal and business money: MoneySky.

If you are in that last group, you can try MoneySky for 14 days and check your banks connect before deciding.

FAQ

Which budgeting app works with Czech banks?

Wallet, Spendee and MoneySky offer automatic sync in Czechia; Toshl offers bank sync on its Medici plan, but I could not verify its Czech coverage; YNAB does not. Coverage of individual Czech banks is not fully published by most apps, so check your bank in the app before you pay. MoneySky lists its supported banks publicly.

Is there a free budgeting app?

Spendee, Wallet and Toshl have free tiers, but bank sync is paid in all three. Your bank's own app and a spreadsheet are fully free. YNAB and MoneySky have trials but no free plan.

Is it safe to connect my bank to a budgeting app?

Through PSD2 it is read-only: the app can see balances and transactions but cannot send payments, and the connection runs through a licensed provider (Wallet holds its own Czech National Bank licence; Spendee and Toshl use Salt Edge and Plaid; MoneySky uses GoCardless). Check where the app stores data and that you can export and delete it.

What is PSD2?

PSD2 is the EU payment services directive. Among other things, it requires banks to give licensed third parties access to your account information when you consent. That is what lets budgeting apps sync your transactions without your banking password. The consent expires and has to be renewed periodically.
